Te Puea Memorial Marae: Kaumaatua

The Kaumaatua of the Marae continue to provide ongoing support, experience, knowledge, advice, and guidance that relates not only to the whakapapa, tikanga, and history of the Marae but also continue to commit themselves and their whaanau to ensuring the ‘mauri’ of the Whare Tupuna is always upheld and protected. They continue to be respected ambassadors of the Marae within the wider community and agency networks, always providing a presence and koorero on behalf of the Whare Tupuna and Marae Whaanau. Today they focus on ensuring their knowledge and legacy is continued and handed down to the next generation of leaders which, has become even more critical as many are passing on and they are sadly missed by Marae Whaanau.
